The Illinois Groundwater Flow Model

The Illinois Groundwater Flow Modeling framework began development in fall of 2015. The framework consists of one regional parent model that covers  the northern half of Illinois and portions of Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin. This large model is necessary to study the regional impacts of withdrawals from the sandstone aquifer system. The model can also be refined to study more local impacts, such as groundwater-surface water interactions. The framework has been established such that all models will be updated as new information, such as annual withdrawals, are made available.

The model is discussed in detail in the following report: Groundwater Flow Models of Illinois: Data, Processes, Model Performance, and Key Results
