About The Illinois State Water Survey

Climate and Weather Impacts

 penninsulariver

Impacts of weather and climate conditions are defined for most unusual events such as major floods, droughts, cold or warm winters, and heat waves. We examine both the physical effects, such as changes in streamflow, ground water levels, and crop yields, and the socioeconomic impacts caused by these events. Some recent impact studies include the winter of 2008-2009 and year-round atmospheric conditions in 2009. The State Climatologist is involved in a nationwide program to help communities prepare for drought conditions.
