The Carbondale station is located in Jackson County on a Southern Illinois University Agronomy Farm just south of county road 1000N, 0.4 km (0.25 mi) west of County Road 2400E. The weather tower is located 130 m south of the main farm building. The terrain surrounding the station is relatively open and rolling. The major obstructions surrounding the station are buildings located 130 and 250 m north, 105 m northeast, 550 m southwest, and 475 and 500 m west of the tower. Mature trees are located 250 m north, 105 and 150 m northeast, 900 m east, 900 m southeast, 600 m south, 340 m southwest, and 475 m northwest of the instrument tower. Scattered trees exist from 1,000 to 1,500 m in all directions from the station.
