Water Planning History

Even though Illinois is relatively abundant in water resources, events and circumstances have caused officials in the past to raise issues about the adequacy of those resources. The following documents, beginning with Governor Blagojevich’s Executive Order 2006-1, include important background information that is helpful in putting the current planning initiative in perspective.

Cadillac Desert, by Marc Reisner.: A book (1993) and a PBS video (4 tape set, 1997). Relates the story of the quest for water in the American west, the role of the Federal Government in the development of water sources, how the West was transformed, and current consequences.
