Rivers and streams are a vital water resource of the state. This site shows provisional, monthly mean flow data for 26 US Geological Survey gaging stations on rivers and streams throughout Illinois. Values reported do not reflect final or official discharges. Provisional data are provided for the month just ending and the preceding water year so that flows at these stations can be compared to flows in the past year. Streamflow varies seasonally, with highest flows typical of spring and lowest flows occurring in the late summer and fall. Long-term average monthly flows and other statistics computed from historical records are given for each calendar month to provide a climatological context for comparison.
