How to Install a Rain Gauge
Step 1: Location

Find a good spot outside for your rain gauge. Look for an open area away from buildings and with nothing overhead such as trees, electric wires, or the edge of a roof. These obstacles can direct rainwater into or away from the opening of your gauge and cause inaccurate measurements.

Examples of Good Locations for Rain Gauges
(a) Deck Railing
(b) Fence
(c) Mailbox Post
(d) Middle of Yard
