Groundwater Modeling Efforts Awarded
The ISWS Center for Groundwater Science received the 2009 Groundwater Protection Award from the Central Region Groundwater Protection Planning Committee during the 15th Annual Groundwater Protection Awards banquet. Center Head Al Wehrmann accepted the award on behalf of the ISWS. The Illinois State Geological Survey (ISGS) was co-recipient of the award. ISWS and ISGS were honored for their research and modeling of the Mahomet aquifer. ISWS developed a regional planning framework that promotes collaboration for managing groundwater supplies that extend beyond community and county boundaries. Scientists also developed computer models to evaluate water supply availability to the year 2050. This particular project was initiated in 2006; however, Mahomet aquifer groundwater modeling efforts date back 40 years at ISWS. |
