Statement of Purpose
The primary functions of the Illinois State Water Survey Library are to provide information and collect materials to support Survey research programs, to collect materials pertaining to Illinois research, and to make these resources available to the public. The ISWS Library is in the process of merging with the libraries of the other State Scientific Surveys to form the Institute Library.
About the Collection
The Library's collection emphasizes groundwater studies, hydrology, meteorology, public water supply and treatment methods, drinking water and wastewater, and water-use planning and policy. The collection focuses on Illinois and surrounding states; however, some materials on other areas are also available. Significant collections include: materials on global climate change; Water Survey publications; and documents from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Geological Survey, and various Illinois agencies. The collection is now represented in the online catalog of the University Library.
Public Services
Contact the ISWS Librarian for reference assistance or to make an appointment to visit the ISWS Library. Those affiliated with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, or any other I-Share institutions may request materials using the University Library or I-Share catalogs. Others may request materials via interlibrary loan through their home library.
