The following bibliography was compiled by Illinois State
Water Survey (ISWS) library staff, with contributions and input from the
ISWS climatology and meteorology staff. It contains select materials for
use by researchers, practitioners, instructors, and students in the field.
A few nontechnical sources have been included for the general public.
The bibliography is limited
to materials that are in English and can be obtained at either the ISWS
Library or at one of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)
libraries. The list of journals and newsletters represents a comprehensive
look at ISWS Library's collection, and includes some public domain online
journals. However, the books highlighted represent only a small sampling
of the Library's very large collection of materials on climate, meteorology,
and related global climate change studies, including government documents,
conference proceedings, textbooks, glossaries, monographs, CDs, and videos.
Call numbers are given when available. Unless otherwise noted,
these publications are in the collection of the ISWS Library. All citations
are arranged alphabetically by title within each category. A complete
list of ISWS journals
is also available. Additional
resources may be found on the ISWS Weather
and Climate Links page or obtained from the UIUC Department
of Atmospheric Sciences.
Journals and Newsletters
Links to information about journal holdings at ISWS and
UIUC are accessible from "Location" at the end of each journal
annotation.

Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC).
http://cdiac.ornl.gov/
This center is "the primary global-change data and information analysis
center of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)." The "CDIAC responds
to data and information requests from users from all over the world who
are concerned with the greenhouse effect and global climate change. CDIAC's
data holdings include records of the concentrations of carbon dioxide
and other radiatively active gases in the atmosphere; the role of the
terrestrial biosphere and the oceans in the biogeochemical cycles of greenhouse
gases; emissions of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere; long-term climate
trends; the effects of elevated carbon dioxide on vegetation; and the
vulnerability of coastal areas to rising sea level."
Center for Analysis and Prediction
of Storms (publications 1989 - present)
http://www.caps.ou.edu/pubs.htm
"The Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS; http://www.caps.ou.edu) was established at the University of Oklahoma in 1989 as one of the first 11 National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center. The mission of CAPS is to develop and demonstrate techniques for the numerical analysis and prediction of high-impact local weather and environmental conditions, with emphasis on the assimilation of observations from Doppler radars and other advanced in-situ and remote sensing systems. CAPS conducts a broad-based program of basic and applied storm-scale research, and its award-winning Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS) is used worldwide. CAPS's vision is to be the world leader in convective-scale data assimilation and numerical weather prediction, providing a venue for exploring bold new ideas, attracting the best scientists and students, and facilitating the transfer of knowledge and technology to academia, government and industry."
Climate Prediction Center (CPC). http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/
"CPC is responsible for issuing seasonal
climate outlook maps for one
to thirteen months in the future. In addition, CPC issues extended range
outlook maps for 6-10
and 8-14
days as well as several special outlooks, such as degree day, drought
and soil moisture, and a forecast for daily ultraviolet (UV) radiation
index. Many of the outlook maps have an accompanying technical discussion.
CPC's outlook and forecast products complement the short range weather
forecasts issued by other components of the National Weather Service (e.g.
local Weather Forecast Offices, and National Centers for Environmental
Prediction). These weather and climate products comprise the National
Weather Service's Suite of Forecast Products."
